Easter Bunny shows up at wedding at Point Dume in Malibu Beach Wedding

Joey and Gustavo wanted to get married on Easter Sunday so i dad to bring along my bunny head.

I didn’t wear it for the ceremony only for pictures after. It made for a great laugh.

They chose Point Dume in Malibu. I was all ready to walk out onto the beach when their friend pointed to the top of the cliffs and said the wedding is up there. I was not ready for that as I was ready to be barefoot on the beach. SO I put on my dress shoes and trecked up the hill.

It was worth every gasp when i got up there. The view is amazing

They decorated the area with wild flowers and draping and the grooms walked down the gauntlet of friends to the end of the path to where I was waiting.

They did a beautiful Sand Ceremony blending their lives together.

After it was all done they had a big kiss and got tons of pictures with their family and friends.

The Plane Crash and the Couple

Normally you don’t hear both of those words in the same sentence but today was a special day.

They came here from Australia with their child to get married on the beach. We met in the parking lot first were issued them their marriage license and we proceeded to walk to the beach.

While on the beach at Point Dume in Malibu as we were walking toward the beach we noticed something strange in the sand.

Plane wreckage:

This area is well known for shooting movies and apparently they were shooting a movie about a plane crash.

So after we explored a bit we went down to the waters edge by the rocks.

I performed a beautiful ceremony for them with the waves crashing in the background. During the ceremony a helicopter flew over and thankfully it didn’t crash.

During their big kiss their child jumped up to join them. It was a very sweet moment.

We love doing beach weddings!

From Nashville,Tennessee to Malibu, California

woody1Woody performed a beautiful walk on ceremony in Malibu for this wonderful couple.

They are originally from California, so they traveled all the way from Nashville to get married, toes in the sand, at Point Dume.

With the waves crashing along the rocks, and the cliff as a backdrop, the couple exchanged vows and i dos.

They had a couple’s rose exchange, a perfect first gift for their married life together.

2 Great Officiants, 2 Great Couples 1 Great Beach in Malibu.

SHARI and I booked booked a beach wedding on Point Dume in Malibu on the same day an hour apart. So we carpooled through early morning traffic and arrived at 930 am. There was almost no one at the beach and it was a perfect combo morning waves crashing against the rocks.

Shari had the first wedding at 10am. They showed up promptly dressed to the nines. She issued them their license and ventured down to the point where some dolphins and whales were cruising by in the backdrop.

Alan’s 11 o’clock couple did not show up till 1230. They had so many mishaps along the way. Their phones both died, they had car trouble and she had accidentally put your hand into some road tar that she couldn’t get off. Making it to the beach was the ultimate test for their marriage. If they could make it there with all the crazy stuff that went on to get them there and they were destined to be together. And in the end they gave each other and amazing kiss and we’re happy that they made it and endured their crazy adventure.

And they all liver happily ever after.

Double rainbow, Sea Lion, Rain, Sunset and a Kiss…highlighted this beautiful wedding at Point Dume in Malibu

Sean and Tara traveled from out of the area to get married on the beach in Malibu. I recommended Point Dume because of its picturesque qualities. Today it did not let us down. Even though it was drizzling at first it created a wonderful exciting buzz.

Just as we were setting up several playful sea lions frolicking in the water just offshore.

They stood inside of a heart that I dug into the sand and exchanged their vows.

I incorporated a sand ceremony into the wedding as well as blowing my conch shell at the beginning.

I'm just as they kissed we looked up and a rainbow appeared and then a double rainbow. We all gasped with joy.

Moments later we turned around to watch the beautiful sunset. It just doesn't get much better than this.

A Fun Beach Wedding at Point Dume, by Michael

Date: 2/14/15

Location: Point Dume State Beach

City: Malibu

Kevin and Kim were such a fun couple and it was a pleasure to perform their ceremony.  Like many of our couples they were coming to us from out of state and we were happy to have them.

We did their ceremony planning session over the phone and I customized our Catholic Light ceremony to make it fit exactly what they were looking for.  When I met with them in Malibu I issued them their marriage license and then headed out near the water to perform their ceremony.

Afterwords they were nice enough to leave the below review for us on Wedding Wire:

"Michael Thieling was our officiant and did a wonderful job. We arranged everything from out of state and he was both professional and very personable. He helped us pick the perfect ceremony and made suggestions that made it a wonderful experience. My new husband and I would highly recommend him as a wedding officiant. He is warm, kind and very good at his profession. Thanks Michael for making our special day perfect!!!"
My pleasure guys!!!!!IMG_1533

A Busy Weekend for Beach Weddings

Great Officiant Frank married Ana and Andrew at a beautiful morning beach ceremony which took place Saturday, August 16th. It was the first of 3 ceremonies to be set up on the Long Beach Peninsula.

The 2nd beach wedding on the 16th was an afternoon ceremony for Wendy and Cornelius. by Great Officiant Greg. This lovely couple decided to have a sand ceremony in their wedding. Find info on our sand ceremonies HERE!

The picture above shows the set up for the 3rd and last wedding that occurred on the Long Beach Peninsula that day. Kelly and Andrew were married by Alan Katz in the late afternoon against the beautiful backdrop of downtown Long Beach.

Emily & Casey

Married on July 25, 2014 at Saddle Peak Lodge

Stories like Emily and Casey’s make me really proud of what we at Great Officiants do. Their ceremony was on a Friday.  That Monday, the officiant they had been working with for a while (not from Great Officiants) called and refused to perform their ceremony unless religious elements were included, which the had said from the onset they didn’t want – so he quit on them.

Enter Great Officiants.  I was happy to put together and perform a ceremony exactly how they wanted it – after all, it’s their day – that’s the point!

Afterwords they had this to say:

About a week before our wedding, our original officiant had to cancel. We were suddenly in a bind and had to act fast to find a new officiant. About an hour after we called Great Officiants, we were put into contact with Michael Thieling. After our first conversation on the phone, we knew he was the right person for the job. Not only was he absolutely the perfect person for our ceremony, he was far better than the original officiant we planned on using! Everyone commented on how well he did.”

I’m so glad they were able to find us and have the ceremony they had dreamed of – congrats guys!!!

Monica & Jebadiah

Married on July 25, 2015 on Point Dume Beach

Monica and Jebadiah 2

Monica and Jebadiah had a small, intimate ceremony on the beach at Point Dume – my go-to spot for couple who want to get married on the beach in Malibu.  They were so fun and I had to get an extra picture of their daughter Millicent who was very interested in how I filled out the marriage license. Congrats family!

Kara and Chris were gracious, upbeat and super fun on their wedding day despite the one major element affecting their wedding out of control – the heat!  We were on a beautiful lawn next to the pond in downtown Long Beach with the majority of their guests in the direct sunlight.  Right before we were about to begin the bride asked me to make it quick.  As I was performing their ceremony I noticed every guest was fanning themselves with their program, so I began to edit down their ceremony on the fly – to the delight of the couple and guests who couldn’t wait to get into the shade. Congrats guys – I hope the reception was held in a location with air conditioning!

Paul & Keiko

Married July 27, 2014 at The Portofino – Redondo Beach

Paul and Keiko were already married, but wanted to affirm their vows in front of their family and friends and I was happy to oblige.  They performed a lovely rose ceremony to their parents and I was able to incorporate some language to include their little son Kai.

Congratulations and good luck to this wonderful family!

Officiant Woody’s Fabulous Ceremonies Pt. 1

Blog-Woody1Woody married John and Sabrina at Point Dume in Malibu. Luckily, the wedding ceremony went much smoother than the pictures!

Is that Woody with William Randolph Hearst and Marion Davies? No, it’s Angela & Michael just after they were married by Woody at the Marion Davies Guest House in Santa Monica. This gorgeous venue was built in the 1920s by William Randolph Hearst for beautiful actress Marion Davies.

Woody sometimes feels like a Traveling Minister going from ranch to ranch performing weddings. Here he is with Alma and Juan in Agoura Hills at the serene Peter Strauss Ranch. And of course, no wedding is complete without the obligatory paparazzi shot!

Woody does so many weddings at the Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, they will soon be naming a horse after him! Or so he hopes! Here he is with bride and groom, Lauren and Zachary.

Beach Wedding Coordinator Beth Creates Two Wonderful Beach Ceremonies!

Our Beach Wedding Coordinator, decided to fill us in on her amazing beach ceremonies this past weekend below!

“This past weekend’s Great Officiant’s Beach Weddings were great and international!

First, a Long Beach wedding for a lovely Australian couple. Aimee and Alison had family and friends flying the Australian flag and a rainbow flag on to the beach. Standing in this beautiful heart of rose petals their wasn’t a dry eye on the beach during their ceremony! And then in true Aussie fashion, the whooping and hollering began as the entire group posed for a sunset photo!

Friends and family placed beach colorful pails filled with goodies on the chairs at another Great Officiant’s beach wedding at Point Dume in Malibu! And Father Geoff, another Great Officiant, waits calmly for Connie and Marc to arrive under one or our Bamboo arch designs and the bluest of skies! Creating beach weddings up and down the coast in LA and Orange County is fun and fulfilling to the soul!”
