Beach balls fly at this wedding ceremony at Hotel Laguna

Brad and Alisa got married at Hotel Laguna beach. This is the only place Laguna Beach that you can set up chairs and arches it was grandfathered into the hotel.

They wanted it to be fun, silly and fast ceremony and they got just that.
They both giggled through the ceremony.
Instead of the traditional Sand ceremony they opted for a plant Unity ceremony where they placed sand into a pot with a succulent plant in it.

At the end of the ceremony as they were walking back down the aisle all of their guests, who had previously been given a beach ball, pelted them as the walked through the gauntlet. It was quite a scene everyone roared  with laughter.

They truly had a ball.

A Lovely Ceremony at Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach

IMG_0073Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach is an amazing spot to get married at. It is in a beautiful location right next to the beach, we love doing ceremonies here! The newly weds had these nice words to share:

"Hi Alan!!!

John and I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful ceremony! The guests couldn't say enough great things about how fabulous it was (and they especially enjoyed the humor you added to the vows!) We can't wait to see the video.

Thank you again, so much!!! It is a day and a ceremony we will never ever forget, and it wouldn't have been the same without you there!

Gayle & John"

Thank you Gayle and John, and Congratulations!beach IMG_0084 IMG_0085 IMG_0088

Wine Box Love Letter and Red Velvet Cake Mix. A cool twist on a new tradition.

I have done many wine box and love letter ceremonies in the past this one is a cool little option.
At Tim and Jeff's wedding today at Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach they are doing something special.

They are placing a bottle of wine to love letters they wrote to each other and a box of red velvet cake mix.
This way on their first anniversary they can open the box, read the love letters and bake some red velvet cupcakes.

I love it when couples do creative things like this.

This couple had a very sad situation. They were visiting from Germany to get married here in the states. One day, their rental car was broken into and they lost everything , including the bride's dress and the rings.

Alan, the great officiant, performed a beautiful ceremony at Alamitos beach, but afterwards he called the hotel Surf and Sand in Laguna where they were staying to see what they could do to help alleviate such an unfortunate situation. This is the review the lovely couple left for him:

From Emergencies to Toddlers- Great Officiant Michael Thieling Can Handle It All!

Emily & Casey

Married on July 25, 2014 at Saddle Peak Lodge

Stories like Emily and Casey’s make me really proud of what we at Great Officiants do. Their ceremony was on a Friday.  That Monday, the officiant they had been working with for a while (not from Great Officiants) called and refused to perform their ceremony unless religious elements were included, which the had said from the onset they didn’t want – so he quit on them.

Enter Great Officiants.  I was happy to put together and perform a ceremony exactly how they wanted it – after all, it’s their day – that’s the point!

Afterwords they had this to say:

About a week before our wedding, our original officiant had to cancel. We were suddenly in a bind and had to act fast to find a new officiant. About an hour after we called Great Officiants, we were put into contact with Michael Thieling. After our first conversation on the phone, we knew he was the right person for the job. Not only was he absolutely the perfect person for our ceremony, he was far better than the original officiant we planned on using! Everyone commented on how well he did.”

Emily and Casey

I’m so glad they were able to find us and have the ceremony they had dreamed of – congrats guys!!!

Monica & Jebadiah

Married on July 25, 2015 on Point Dume Beach

Monica and Jebadiah 1

Monica and Jebadiah 2

Monica and Jebadiah had a small, intimate ceremony on the beach at Point Dume – my go-to spot for couple who want to get married on the beach in Malibu.  They were so fun and I had to get an extra picture of their daughter Millicent who was very interested in how I filled out the marriage license. Congrats family!

Kara & Chris

Married on July 26, 2014 at the Courtyard Marriott – Long Beach

Kara and Chris were gracious, upbeat and super fun on their wedding day despite the one major element affecting their wedding out of control – the heat!  We were on a beautiful lawn next to the pond in downtown Long Beach with the majority of their guests in the direct sunlight.  Right before we were about to begin the bride asked me to make it quick.  As I was performing their ceremony I noticed every guest was fanning themselves with their program, so I began to edit down their ceremony on the fly – to the delight of the couple and guests who couldn’t wait to get into the shade. Congrats guys – I hope the reception was held in a location with air conditioning!

Paul & Keiko

Married July 27, 2014 at The Portofino – Redondo Beach

Paul and Keiko were already married, but wanted to affirm their vows in front of their family and friends and I was happy to oblige.  They performed a lovely rose ceremony to their parents and I was able to incorporate some language to include their little son Kai.

Paul and Keiko

Congratulations and good luck to this wonderful family!

Great Officiants Octavio and Ralph’s Beautiful Beach Ceremonies

Ralph- Angela & Tracy

Rev. Ralph presided over the nuptials of Angela & Tracy on the beach at beautiful Point Dume, on Sunday afternoon, May 18.  The bride made Ralph’s job easy: she not only provided personalized vows, but wrote the entire ceremony herself!  It was a lovely day, a lovely service, and a lovely couple!

Our Great Officiant Octavio wrote the following: Allan & Stephany got married at beautiful Hotel Laguna in Laguna Beach, CA. The ceremony took place on the beach and the crowds were cheering them on as we did the ceremony! This is one of my favorite things about officiating ceremonies in public places, everybody around joins in on the love!!!

Allan & Stephany, thank you for giving me the honor of officiating your wedding! I wish you all the blessings in the World!

Officiant Michael’s Packed Wedding Weekend Pt. 1

Michael 5-9

This young couple was so fun!  While their ceremony had quite a number of guests we were in a lovely side area of Calamigos Ranch, in Malibu, which gave it an intimate, private feeling.  They exchanged personal vows which contained more than one Disney reference to the delight and laughter of their family and friends.  Their Disney cake epitomized their celebration – carefree joy and light-hearted excitement.

How can you not have an amazing time this close to Disney Land?  Tin and Megumi’s intimate ceremony was beautifully setup in the center garden area of this castle-like hotel, the Sheraton Anaheim.  While their friends and family watched (along with some curious hotel guests), they tied the knot and began their new life together.

Mike2Fotor

Grace and Scott boarded a cruise ship in Los Angeles and hopped off in Santa Barbara so that I could perform their ceremony.  Along with a friendly couple they met on the ship and their photographer, they exchanged heartfelt vows and some special readings they picked for each other on the beach.  After I pronounced them husband and wife, we sped them back to the dock just in time to re-board the ship for the rest of their vacation.

Officiant Anthony Performs Beautiful Beach and Garden Weddings

Lots of Smiles with Farrah and Sean

On October 18th, Farrah and Sean were married at the Laguna Cliff Marriott in Dana Point. Sean had a permanent smile from the moment I arrived and never stopped!

Although he was doing fine on his own, his mother told him “Breath! Deep, in from your nose, out from your mouth!” She even continued telling him as Farrah was coming down the isle!

Her dress was amazing – the processional music had a can-can rhythm, and Farrah kicked as she walked. Her dress moved to the music producing a beautiful flowing effect.

There were lots of smiles and good laughs for the personalized promises: Farrah will go to In-N-Out and Sean will let loose on the dance floor.

The weather was wonderful, and the sunset made for some rockin’ photos!

Wonderful Ceremony with a Scottish Touch and Poem – James and Diana

20131013 James, Diana & AVYOn October 13th, I was privileged to be the officiant for James and Diana, whose ceremony took place at the Palisades Gazebo Park in Dana Point.

There was a lovely view of the ocean behind them along with candles, photos of loved ones near by, and a Bagpipe player in full formal Scottish dress to play the processional and recessional.

The ‘normal’ ceremony verbiage was replaced by a poem written by Diana and read by me.

The ring exchange followed the reading and then the kiss!

Untraditional I Do’s at Beautiful Traditional Wedding – Robert and Yvonne

20131012 Robert, Yvonne & AVY

On October 12, I was at the Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge. This is a beautiful place, and a perfect setting for a wedding. The weather was amazing – sunny but not to warm – and just enough breeze without being windy.

The couple, Robert and Yvonne, had a traditional, secular ceremony except for the “I Do’s” which included Robert learning to cook and turn off lights when he leaves a room, and Yvonne learning to drive a standard transmission car and getting up at 4:30 am to watch Formula 1 with Robert. Their guests appreciated the humor with long, loud laughs and even some applause.

Nervous Groom Cracks Up Bride – Chris and Mellisa

20131005 Chris, Mellissa & AVYOn October 5th I was privileged to be the officiant for Chris and Mellisa at the Los Verdes Golf Club.  It was a warm, bright, and lovely day.

The couple are fantastic people!! Light, fun loving, and surrounded with like-minded folks. The groom was one of the most animated nervous I’ve ever seen! He could not stand still nor stop talking! His bride was beautiful and had the most delightful look on her face and in her eyes, except of course when see was laughing at something Chris said!

There were twice as many groomsmen as brides maids. The live music, keyboard, and guitar with an additional singer were great! They included a sand ceremony set up under a hoopa.

Fun Backyard Wedding Over-looking Sunset on the Beach

20130928 Amanda, Chris & AVY

On September 28th, at 5:00 pm, I performed a beautiful event that took place in a back yard over looking the beach from the edge of a cliff at San Clemente’s Riviera District.

The groom’s son was his best man, and the bride’s daughters were her court.

Having not seen each other the entire day, the moment the groom saw his bride in her dress was emotional for them both. Her brother was her escort and gave her away.

They incorporated several things into the ceremony to show their sense of humor. The ceremony was very funny, and the guests loved it!

Sometimes the Ocean is All You Need – Shawn and Leslie20130928 Shawn, Leslie & AVY 2

This fine event was in Oceanside, in the backyard of a house that ends ON THE SAND!

Thirty or so chairs were set up facing the ocean. There was no arch or flowers, but just the big ol’ lovely ocean behind the couple.

Shawn and Leslie had a small wedding party of family. It was a fun, light ceremony – just what the couple asked for.

There were a good number of people on the beach and many took to watching and even clapping when the couple kissed!
